Great Sacred Music Online
Every Thursday at 1.00pm, St Martin’s Voices with Revd Dr Sam Wells present Great Sacred Music, a 35 minute sequence of choral music, interspersed with inspiring reflections on the works performed.
We are now pleased to present a regular podcast series, featuring recent highlights of our series.
Great Day: The Spirituals of Moses Hogan
African-American spirituals blend the beat of African songs with the suffering of slavery in the American South and the depth of Christian faith. Some songs anticipate God intervening to liberate, echoing the experience of Israel in Egypt. In this podcast we explore choral arrangements of Spirituals by American pianist, conductor and arranger Moses Hogan, including Wade in the Water, I stood on the River of Jordan and Great Day.
