New London Singers
Ivor Setterfield

Founded in 1963, New London Singers are one of London’s most outstanding vocal ensembles. They perform most regularly at St Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square, and have also recently performed at the Banqueting House on Whitehall, St Paul’s Covent Garden and All Hallows’, Gospel Oak. The Choir has also performed at venues across Europe, most recently in Poznan, Poland in May 2009. A tour to Seville is planned for November 2012.

In addition to concerts, the Choir has been featured in a number of television programmes on the BBC. In April 2009, the The One Show invited members of NLS to support the hosts of the show in a viewer competition to decide which of them would perform live.

The Choir also featured in Classic Goldie(July/August 2009). Goldie, the drum and bass artist, and runner up in the popular BBC Maestro competition (2008), was commissioned to compose a piece of music to be performed at the Proms 2009. NLS were filmed trialling the choral parts of Sine Tempore, so that Goldie could make alterations and improvements to his final score.

In October 2009, members of NLS were invited to sing on ITV’s Alan Titchmarsh Show, in a tribute to one of the Show’s guests, Aled Jones.

2010 saw NLS sing Choral Evensong at the church of St Sepulchre-without-Newgate in London, and this has now turned into an annual event with the choir singing services at Westminster Abbey in 2011 and 2012.

In March 2012, NLS was invited by Decca to record with Joseph Calleja for his album in tribute to the great American tenor Mario Lanza.

Choral competitions are another facet of the Choir. NLS have won major prizes including ‘Rencontres Internationales de Chant Chorale’ in Tours, France, and ‘Let the Peoples Sing’ in the UK.
