Katharine Dain Soprano
St Martin’s Consort
Andrew Earis Conductor

American soprano Katharine Dain, acclaimed for “thrilling,” “heart-piercing” performances, is becoming a sought-after concert and operatic artist in North America and Europe. Opera credits include Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor (title role), Mozart’s Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), and Madame Herz/Goldentrill (Der Schauspieldirektor), the leads of Cavalli’s La Calisto (title role) and Giasone (Hypsipyle), and numerous contemporary pieces. She recently debuted with the Netherlands Opera in Claude Vivier’s Kopernikus; she has also worked with VocaalLAB, Gotham Chamber Opera, Opera Company of Philadelphia, Operadagen Rotterdam, Ash Lawn Opera, Opera Omnia, Capitol Opera Raleigh, Center for Contemporary Opera, and the Bard Music Festival.

Ms. Dain also has extensive experience in oratorio, recital repertoire, and chamber music, particularly the music of Bach, Handel, Mozart, and 20th- and 21st-century composers. She has been featured with the Südwestradiofunkorchester Freiburg & Baden-Baden, Asko|Schönberg Ensemble, Nieuw Ensemble, Alexandria Symphony, Springfield Symphony, American Symphony Orchestra, Cappella Amsterdam, and numerous choruses, and as vocal soloist with the Mark Morris Dance Group and New York City Ballet. She has performed in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Vienna’s Musikverein, and recently made a recital debut in Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw in lieder of Korngold, Marx, and Strauss, replacing an ill soloist on a day’s notice in a performance called a “miracle” by Place de l’Opéra. Other concert appearances include the Holland Festival, West Cork Chamber Music Festival, Ravinia Festival (Steans Fellow), Bargemusic, New York Festival of Song’s Next series, Songfest (Stern Fellow), and in recital tours with the Piatigorsky Foundation, often performing songs and cycles written for her. Ms. Dain was educated at Harvard University, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and Mannes College of Music, and she currently lives in the Netherlands.
