Trafalgar Sinfonia
Richard Milone Violin
Ivor Setterfield Conductor

The Trafalgar Sinfonia was founded by its musical director and inspiring British conductor Ivor Setterfield in 1992.  Created originally to accompany both the New London Singers and the Codina Singers, it quickly developed a reputation as an outstanding ensemble in its own right. Now with an international following, it continues to attract some of the most talented and exciting young musicians, presenting a regular season of concerts at the famous St Martin-in-the-Fields in the heart of London. It also performs regularly at a number of other UK and international venues including the Royal Festival Hall and the Royal Albert Hall.

In addition to numerous notable solo orchestral performances at prestigious venues, the orchestra has maintained its close links with choirs and choral music.

Its recordings include an album with the New London Singers (a selection of works by Vivaldi), a collection of English String Serenades, and to widespread critical acclaim, a new recording of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons coupled with a contemporary companion piece, Anno, by Oliver Davis.

Ivor Setterfield is a leading British choral and orchestral conductor. The founder and musical director of the Trafalgar Sinfonia, Ivor is also the director of the celebrated New London Singers and Barts Choir, the capital’s largest musical institution. He has conducted a number of the UK’s leading orchestras and performs regularly at major international venues including the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Festival Hall.

Described by critics as a “ball of energy and determination”, Ivor is credited with “a talent for translating musical direction into analogies that even the untrained can understand”.

He enjoyed a distinguished career as a solo boy treble at St Alban’s Cathedral before graduating in music from York University. He was subsequently awarded scholarships to study singing and conducting at both the Royal Academy and the Royal Academy of Music studying with Colin Metters, Sir Colin Davis, as well as the great Russian conductors Ilya Musin and Valery Gergiev.

Ivor has guest conducted extensively in the UK and internationally including with the prestigious Philharmonia Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and the London Mozart Players.

He has also made regular TV appearances on the BBC, ITV and Channel 5, including presenting his Rose d’Or-nominated landmark documentary series The Singing Estate. A mentor to Drum & Bass star Goldie in the hugely popular BBC series Maestro, Ivor returned to the screen in a follow-up TV show documenting Goldie’s journey composing a classical piece for the BBC Proms.
