After playing jazz piano from a young age, Martin Feinstein finally learned to read music at the age of 15 and, inspired by the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, took up the flute. Three years later he began flute and recorder studies at the Royal College of Music and completed his training in Hamburg with the great German flautist Karlheinz Zoeller, funded by a German Government Scholarship. After working in Hamburg and Frankfurt with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra and Ensemble Modern, he returned to London to form the Feinstein Ensemble.

As a soloist, and with his Ensemble, Martin has performed, broadcast and recorded a wide range of repertoire on both modern and period instruments. His concerto and sonata recordings for NAXOS, BLACK BOX MUSIC and SANCTUARY have met with critical praise both in this country and abroad. International tours over the past few years have included the Far East, Germany, the Gulf and Egypt, Israel, Belgium and Holland. Martin’s obsession with Bach continues to land him in trouble.

Specialising in the historically accurate performance of music from the 18th century, the Feinstein Ensemble’s concerts and recordings of the Baroque repertoire have been acclaimed internationally. The Ensemble performs often in London, including a festival of Bach at Southbank Centre each March and an Autumn season of Cantata concerts at St Martin-in-the-fields. International tours have included the Far East, Germany, the Gulf and Egypt, Israel, Belgium and Holland.

The Feinstein Ensemble’s collaborations with the London Bach Singers have included performances of Bach’s Mass in B Minor, the St John Passion, the Magnificat and the Easter Oratorio, each of which have met with critical praise. The Ensemble can be heard on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM and they have broadcast a groundbreaking documentary and live performance of Bach’s six Brandenburg Concerti for BBC Television.
