St Martin’s Chorus is the newest choir at St Martin-in-the-Fields. It is a voluntary choir that was founded in April 2015. It offers singers the chance to perform big choral works, as well as more intimate, chamber choir repertoire. St Martin’s Chorus performed their debut concert (Mozart Requiem and Haydn Theresienmesse) in May 2015, to a sell-out audience at St Martin-in-the-Fields.
The Choral Scholars have an essential musical role at St Martin-in-the-Fields. Every year twelve scholars – many of whom are music college students or graduates – are appointed to sing Choral Eucharist and Evensong every Wednesday during term time. They also sing at occasional Sunday evensongs, gain concert experience, and benefit from an extensive programme of training in different aspects of church and choral music. Recent Choral Scholar tours include visiting Berlin, and travelling to Holy Island in Northumberland.
The Choir of St Martin-in-the-Fields is a group of dedicated singers from all walks of life, with an excellent reputation for performance of a professional standard. The Choir sings at regular Sunday services at St Martin-in-the-Fields, and is well known for its frequent broadcasts on BBC Radio and Television, including regularly appearing on Radio 4 Sunday Worship. The Choir has recorded three CDs, ‘Christmas at St Martin-in-the-Fields’ (2009), Evensong in Blue (2010) and a recording, ‘The Art of Worship’, in collaboration with the National Gallery. They toured the USA – Minneapolis, New York, Washington DC and Atlanta – in May 2011, and visited Berlin in summer 2013. In summer 2014, they made another tour to the USA visiting North and South Carolina, Virginia and Washington DC.
St Martin’s Voices is a vibrant professional choir primarily made up of talented past and present choral scholars who come together to sing high-profile services and events at St Martin-in-the-Fields and beyond. As well as their extensive programme of concerts, they have a busy recording schedule, including Daily Service for BBC Radio 4 and Choral Evensong for BBC Radio 3, and monthly Great Sacred Music podcasts which are available at www.smitf.org/GSMonline.
The Children’s Voices of St Martin’s was formed in 2014 and has quickly become an integral part of the St Martin-in-the-Fields musical community. This choir of seven to thirteen-year-olds has joined our existing high-quality music ensembles to regularly enhance our music-making at church services and concerts. It provides invaluable musical training for its young singers.
