Free Lunchtime Concert – Junior Guildhall String Chamber Music

Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama Series

Programme

Students from Junior Guildhall perform a programme of string chamber works.

The Guildhall School of Music & Drama is one of Europe’s leading conservatoires, offering musicians, actors, stage managers and theatre technicians an inspiring environment in which to develop as artists and professionals. While vocational training is its central role, the School regards the early grounding of talented children as fundamental, giving great importance and resources to Junior Guildhall.

Junior Guildhall currently has 365 music students aged between 4 and 19 and employs over 100 professors drawn from London’s professional orchestras and freelance musicians. The Music Course offers a comprehensive programme covering instrumental lessons, aural training, musicianship and ensemble skills. Living mainly in London and the surrounding areas, the young musicians are able to combine their specialist musical training at Junior Guildhall with their general education in local schools. Most of the students ultimately move on to study music full‑time in conservatories and universities, eventually making careers in the music profession.

Performance is a central theme in Junior Guildhall’s work and students take part in concerts at all levels. There are often as many as 80 concerts a year managed by the School as well as several television and radio recordings. Junior Guildhall ensembles have played in all the major London concert halls including the Southbank, the Royal Albert Hall and the Barbican Concert Hall.
