The English Piano Trio is an established ensemble and has appeared on major London concert platforms. They have played for many music societies and festivals throughout the UK, and also abroad. The group has presented complete Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven programmes at London’s South Bank, and performed an all Shostakovich programme with readings of the Russian poet Anna Akhmatova at the Usher Hall, Edinburgh. The Trio plays regularly in the recital room at the Colston Hall in Bristol.
The English Piano Trio has promoted contemporary music by commissioning, performing and recording works by Goldschmidt, Malcolm Lipkin, and David Matthews. They recorded works of Malcolm Arnold (Naxos). For their 20th anniversary, the Trio commissioned and performed works by Cecilia McDowall, David Matthews and Joseph Phibbs.
The players research works by lesser known composers. This research and subsequent recording (Dutton Epoch) and performance at the South Bank of music by the English composer Edward Bache (1833 -58) gained them critical acclaim. The Trio also gave the UK premiere at the South Bank of Anne Dudley’s arrangement of the Bach Chaconne for piano trio.
The Trio devises new ideas on programming, either as an extended ensemble, or with actors and narrators in their ‘Words and Music’ concerts. These feature particular writers, composers or historic events.
