The School has a worldwide reputation for music; its Music Department has achieved widespread recognition for the professional work of the Trinity Boys Choir, for its success in national chamber music competitions, and for the large number of former pupils who have enjoyed distinguished musical careers. The Boys Choir appears regularly at the major opera houses, at the BBC Proms, and in concerts throughout the world. The Music Department boasts 4 string orchestras at all levels, 2 symphony orchestras, 3 big bands, a great variety of chamber music ensembles, as well as numerous choirs, enjoying the use of several rehearsal halls including a Performing Arts Theatre equipped with full studio recording facilities. Amiri Harewood started studying piano when he was six and then picked up the cello shortly after at the age of eight. He went on to pass his Associated Board Grade 8 Piano exam with distinction just after his 11th birthday. He has participated in master classes given by pianists such as Vanessa Latarche, Arnon Erez, Andrew Zolinsky and Eduard Stan. Since 2014, Amiri has attended Trinity Music Academy where he studies piano and cello under Mr Richard Evans and Miss Ann Lines and more recently he has participated in composition classes with Mr Marcos Fernandez. Chamber music is especially a passion of his and in 2015 he played cello as a member of Trinity’s Chen Piano Trio who competed in the Pro Corda National Chamber Music Competition for Schools and concluded the competition as Chamber Champions. Last year Amiri travelled to Mallorca to take part in an International Piano Course, and also made his recital debut at Steinway Halls where he played Beethoven’s Waldstein Sonata. He then performed recitals in Venice, Italy where he played piano and cello which made 2016 a truly unforgettable year. In April 2017, he was invited to perform in the piano festival at the Institute Français in London. When a member of Trinity Boys Choir, Amiri had the privilege of performing in prestigious venues such as Royal Opera House, Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Glyndebourne, Barbican, and he took part in the 2015 Trinity Boys Choir tour to Japan.

Joe Mackley started playing the saxophone at the age of eight and made his debut performance at the age of 10 at the Fairfield Halls, Croydon. He is the lead saxophonist in the Trinity School Big Band and the Trinity School Symphonic Wind Orchestra. He played with the National Children’s Wind Orchestra in 2013 and the National Youth Wind Ensemble in 2016 and 2017, being principal saxophonist this year. He has performed at venues as diverse as Glyndebourne Opera and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. He has been a concerto soloist with the Sutton Symphony Orchestra in 2015 and with the Trinity School Symphonic Wind Orchestra in 2017, with further concerto performances scheduled with the Symphonic Wind Orchestra in Italy this summer. Joe studies saxophone with Rob Lawrence and singing with Kathy Fuge at Trinity Music Academy and piano with Alan Brown. He passed the DipABRSM diploma in saxophone with distinction in 2016 and recently passed the ARSM singing diploma with merit. Joe has been awarded a four year scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music from September 2017 and is supported by the HR Taylor Charitable Trust and the Grinstead Fund.
