Trio Aquilon emerged from the Aquilon Ensemble, founded by Eulalie Charland and Maiko Mori in 2002 whilst they were studying at the Royal College of Music. As a group with flexible instrumentation they performed throughout the UK, including the South Bank Centre for the Park Lane Group and took part in such projects as a recording of William Walton’s Sonata for Radio France broadcast Le matin des musiciens. In 2011, they were joined by former cellist of the Harpham Quartet, Lawrence Durkin; their fruitful collaboration has resulted in the rebranding of the group and a fuller commitment to the exploration of the rich piano trio repertoire. The name Aquilon is derived from the Roman god of the north wind, Aquilo, who brings the season of winter.
The trio has given recitals at Chichester Cathedral, St Giles-in-the-Fields, St. Michael’s at the North Gate in Oxford, for Munster Square Music Live and for the Piano Trio Society. The trio has received guidance from Yossi Zivoni and has participated in masterclasses with Susan Tomes, Richard Ireland and Levon Chiligirian at the London Chamber Studio at Kings Place. Through the support of generous patrons, the trio has been enabled to produce a debut CD and they are currently preparing to record and promote it. Future engagements include recitals at Chichester University and Conway Hall.
