St Martin-in-the-Fields Organ Series

The St Martin-in-the-Fields Organ Series has been running on the first Monday of each month at 1.00pm for several decades and features some of the finest organists from Britain and abroad. The Church has a long and illusterious history of organ performance that stretches back to its consecration in the 1700s and alledged performances by Handel and Mozart. This tradition is perpetuated as an essential component of the Lunchtime Concert Series which continues in its mission to promote new and established musical talent by providing the opportunity to perform on a rare central-London platform. Today, performers enjoy the priviledge of playing on the church's 1990 J W Walker organ.

Greg Morris

Programme

Greg Morris is Associate Organist of the Temple Church in London, a position he has held since September 2006. He combines this post with a busy career as a free-lance organist, and has performed at many of the country?s leading recital venues. In June 2006, Greg was the organ soloist in the World Première of David Briggs? Organ Concerto, written in celebration of the organ of Blackburn Cathedral, and he has made the first recording of this work on the Chestnut label. His first solo CD, Sounds Inspirational, which features music by composers including Bach, Buxtehude, Duruflé and Messiaen, has received widespread critical acclaim.

Greg held organ scholarships at St George?s Chapel, Windsor, Jesus College, Cambridge and St Martin-in-the-Fields. He studied with Andrew Dean, Paul Stubbings, John Kitchen and Thomas Trotter, and was a double prizewinner in the Fellowship of the Royal College of Organists examinations. In 2000 he was appointed Assistant Director of Music at Blackburn Cathedral, where he accompanied the Cathedral Choirs in a busy programme of recordings, concerts and tours in addition to the Cathedral?s regular services.
