New London Soloists Orchestra & Barts Chamber Choir
Ivor Setterfield - Conductor
New London Soloists Orchestra, formed in 1992 by its Musical Director Ivor Setterfield, the New London Soloists Orchestra has built a reputation as one of London’s most dynamic and accomplished ensembles. Performing on both modern & period instruments this extremely versatile orchestra enjoys a diverse repertoire ranging from Bach to Blake, Purcell to Parry, Handel to Howells and Vivaldi to Vaughan Williams.
Now in its eighth season of acclaimed concerts at St Martin-in-the-Fields, the orchestra has an international following. In addition to its reputation as an outstanding solo ensemble, NLSO has close links with choirs and choral music and regularly appears in an accompanying role with New London Singers and Barts Choir. Highlights in the 2005 season include a return to the Royal Festival Hall and a debut at the Barbican Hall.
“The finale received as vigorous and thrilling a reading as one could wish for. This was a driven performance, full of intensity which seldom relaxed but always danced.” - The Strad
Barts Chamber Choir was formed in 2004 with members drawn from Barts Choir; one of the largest and most accessible cultural organisations in London. The Chamber Choir was created to give selected singers from the main choir an opportunity to sing in more intimate venues.
The Chamber Choir performed Mozart’s Requiem at St Martin-in-the-Fields and at the Rudolfinum in Prague during the summer of 2004.
Barts Choir performs three large-scale concerts per year at venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall and the Barbican under its musical director Ivor Setterfield. From these concerts the choir supports donations to charity (usually medical ones) and has in its 40 year history raised around £800,000.
