Alexander Chaplin was appointed Musical Director of Harlow Chorus in September 2009. He was a chorister at Canterbury Cathedral and held the organ scholarships at Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln College before studying conducting at the Royal College of Music, London. As well as his work with Harlow he is also Musical Director of East London Chorus and Wokingham Choral Society and a Lecturer at Morley College, London; future engagements include performances in King's College, Cambridge and Ely Cathedral, broadcasts on BBC Radio and engagements in Norway and Estonia.
Harlow Chorus is a highly successful amateur chorus of some 100 voices, celebrating over 30 years of choral singing in Harlow and the surrounding counties of East Anglia. Our principal objective is to inspire and train amateur singers to perform choral works to standards which are nationally recognised as being of the highest calibre and to present those works to the widest possible audience. The choir mounts a season of concerts in venues throughout the east of England as well as accepting engagements. Orchestras it has performed with include the London Philharmonic, with which the choir has made two acclaimed recordings, City of London Sinfonia, Britten Sinfonia and the Brandenburg Sinfonia, with whom it regularly performs at St Martin-in-the-Fields, London. The Chorus also tours extensively abroad; most recently to Belgium, South Africa and Ireland. As well as performing a wide range of classical and lighter works, Harlow Chorus programmes contemporary pieces in many of its concerts and is committed to new music, having commissioned three new works in the last seven years.
The Brandenburg Sinfonia is one of the most dynamically versatile musical organisations in the country. In recent years the orchestra has performed in the majority of the major venues across the country, and in London. Future tours include: France, Germany, USA, Japan and Hong Kong.
