Choir of St Martin-in-the-Fields visits Berlin

News St Martin – Talking Points

Thursday 5 September 2013

The Choir visited Berlin between 28 August and 2 September, to sing a number of services and concerts in the city.

The opening concert took place at the Martin Luther Church in Neukölln, which has strong links with St Martin’s and where a number of our congregation will soon be visiting. This was followed by a performance at the Passionkirche, sung jointly with their choir, the Passionchor, where we sang a range of German, American and English choral music.

On the Sunday morning we sang for the service at the Heilig Kreuz Church, a very similar institution to St Martin’s with it’s well known work in ministry, music and homelessness. Revd David Jackson, who accompanied us on the tour, read the epistle and led the prayers. The tour finished in grand style with singing at the evening service in Berlin Cathedral, to a congregation of nearly a thousand. Throughout the tour the Choir was very well received, with a number of standing ovations and encores!
We are now planning for a visit by the Passionchor to sing at St Martin’s in 2014. A great time was had by all, and it was a fantastic way of building new links and friendships with St Martin’s, as well as giving the Choir an invaluable opportunity to live, work and grow together.
