Christmas in July: an update on the Christmas Appeal 2012/13

News St Martin – Talking Points

Thursday 18 July 2013

Each July, the team behind the BBC Radio 4 St Martin-in-the-Fields Christmas Appeal produce an update on how your donations are being put to use transforming the lives of homeless and vulnerable people across the UK.

The Connection at St Martin-in-the-Fields provides services to thousands of homeless people every year. William had been on and off the streets for years, but through The Connection at St Martin’s he had the opportunity to take an IT course and volunteer as an IT teaching assistant and is rebuilding his confidence.

The Vicar’s Relief Fund has made over 1,400 small grants to people in extreme financial difficulty since January, including Scott in Wirral who received £150 to buy furniture and help him overcome his struggle leading a settled life after leaving the army, and Rose in Antrim who needed £182 to stop her and her two year old granddaughter losing their home.

These are just three examples of how the £2 million donated to last year’s Appeal has helped change lives. To find out more, read the Christmas in July 2013 newsletter.

The Christmas Appeal receives donations all year round, so if you’d like to help our ongoing work, please donate online now.
