Autumn Special Services at St Martin’s

News St Martin – Talking Points

Tuesday 1 October 2013

Come and join our worship in a pattern of services this autumn that reflect the rich themes of the season, with Harvest, All Saints and All Souls through to Remembrance.

Wednesday 2 October: Choral Wednesdays

We welcome a new group of Choral Scholars to sing Choral Eucharist and Choral Evensong services at 1.00pm and 5.00pm for our popular Choral Wednesdays.

Sunday 6 October, 10.00am: Harvest Thanksgiving Eucharist

This year our Harvest Thanksgiving focuses on the threat to the environment and God’s call to good stewardship. How are we all called to respond to the ecological catastrophe that our planet faces, individually, nationally and internationally? As we give thanks to God for the gifts of creation we reflect and pray for the urgent need  for change.

The service will be led by Revd Richard Carter, St Martin’s International Committee and Sustainability Task Group. The preacher will be Revd Dr Sam Wells.

3:00pm: Pearly Kings and Queens Association Harvest Festival

Come and experience this colourful slice of traditional London life at this annual service.

Sunday 20 October, 10.00am: St Luke’s Day – How does God heal us?

The service includes the laying on of hands and anointing with oil, accompanied by prayers for healing, for yourself, someone else of the wider world. The preacher is Revd Prof John Swinton.

Sunday 3 November, 10.00am: A Commemoration of All Saints and All Souls

In our 10.00am Parish Eucharist we give thanks for and celebrate our unity with all those who have witnessed to the Christian faith throughout the centuries. The preacher will be Revd Richard Carter. The Choir of St Martin-in-the-Fields sing Duruflé’s Requiem at our evenings All Souls Choral Eucharist at 6.30pm, where we remember and pray for all whom we have loved and whose memories are precious to us. The preacher will be Revd Clare Herbert.

Thursday 7 November, 11.30am: Annual Service of Commemoration for homeless people who have died in the last year

Reflecting on the theme The Last Shall be First, we gather to remember all those who have died homeless in the last year, remembering each person by name, and praying for those who still have no home and all those who work with them to bring transformation and change. The service is organised by St Martin-in-the-Fields, The Connection at St Martin’s and Housing Justice.

The reflection will be given by Pat Logan and there will be music by Streetwise Opera and Choir with No Name.

Sunday 10 November: Remembrance Sunday and St Martin’s Day Patronal Festival

Join us at 10.00am to keep Remembrance Sunday. In the evening at 6.30pm we celebrate the life of our patron saint, Martin of Tours. The preacher is Revd Dr Sam Wells.
