News St Martin – Talking Points

Friday 21 September 2012

Come and join our worship in a pattern of services this autumn that reflect the rich themes of the season with Harvest, All Saints and All Souls through to Remembrance. Our special services include:

Wednesday 3 October – Choral Wednesdays

We welcome a new group of Choral Scholards to sing Choral Eucharist and Choral Evensong services at 1.00pm and 5.00pm for our popular Choral Wednesdays.


Sunday 7 October, 10.00am – Harvest Thanksgiving Eucharist

Join us for our Harvest Thanksgiving Eucharist in which we reflect upon all that we receive, all that we share, and all that needs to be transformed if we are to live God’s Good News for the poor. The Service will be led by Revd Richard Carter with the Choir of St Martin-in-the-Fields. The preacher will be Revd Dr Sam Wells, vicar of St Martins.


Sunday 7 October, 3.00pm – Pearly Kings and Queens Harvest Festival

Celebrate Harvest with the Original Pearly Kings and Queens Association at their colourful annual service.


Sunday 21 October, 10,00am – St Luke’s Day Healing Service

Join us to celebrate the beloved physician St Luke with our annual Service of Healing. The service includes the laying on of hands and anointing with oil, accompanied by prayers for healing, for yourself, someone else or the wider world. The preacher is Revd Katherine Hedderly.


Monday 29 October, 5.30pm – BBC Radio 2 Young Chorister of the Year

Sunday 4 November, 8.10am – BBC Radio 4 Sunday Worship

At this time of All Souls and All Saints we take as our theme “Remembering” and explore in word, prayer and music what it means to remember others and how our present and our future are shaped by those memories. Led by Revd Richard Carter with the Choir of St Martin-in-the-Fields. The preacher will be Revd Dr Sam Wells, vicar of St Martin-in-the-Fields. Either join us in church at 7.45am or listen on BBC Radio 4 at 8.10am.


Sunday 4 November 10.00am – A Commemoration of All Saints and All Souls

In our 10.00am Parish Eucharist we give thanks for and celebrate our unity with all those who have witnessed to the Christian faith throughout the centuries. The preacher will be Revd Clare Herbert. The Choral Scholars of St Martin-in-the-Fields sing faure’s Requiem at our evening All Souls Choral Eucharist at 6.30pm, where we remember and pray for all whom we have loved and whose memories are precious to us. The preacher will be Revd Katherine Hedderley.


Thursday 8 November, 11.30am – Annual Service of Commemoration For homeless people who have died in the last year

We gather to remember by name each of those people who have died homeless over the past year, giving thanks for their lives and praying for all those who work to bring transformation and change, Led by Revd Richard Carter.


Sunday 11 November – Remembrance Sunday and St Martin’s Day

Join us in keeping Remembrance Sunday at 10.00am Eucharist. In the evening at our 6.30pm Evening Service the community of St Martin’s celebrate the life of our patron saint, Martin of Tours. The preacher is Revd Dr Sam Wells.


Wednesday 28 November – Just This Day

Just This Day returns to St Martin’s with a day themed around the importance of stillness and silence. With time for silent contemplation, a discussion with inspiring speakers and meditation led by Fr Laurence Freeman OSB, Director of the World Community for Christian meditation. All events are free to attend.
