Today/8.10am BBC Radio 4 Sunday Worship The Coming of Christ as a Child: Singing Mary’s Song Today. Revd Sam Wells preaches, with music from the Choir of St Martin’s, as we reflect on wealth and poverty in the gospel, the world and in our own lives.

Today/Welcome All Wonders at 6.30pm A chance to celebrate the Christmas story, with readings, carols and reflections and the music of A Christmas Cantata by Richard Sheppard, based on Richard Crashaw’s Hymn of the Nativity. Led by Revd Katherine Hedderly with the Choral Scholars of St Martin’s.

Today/Young People’s Guide to the Readings A guide to the Scripture-readings, including word-search, colouring pages and crayons, is available from the Stewards.

Today/Children’s Programme – C-Club meets after the 10am service on 22 December in the Dick Sheppard Chapel for a short programme with young people and adults, followed by biscuits and fun! C-Club will be on holiday Christmas Day and Sunday 29 Dec. We resume on 5 Jan with a ‘First Sunday’ 9.30am programme: ‘What Happens around the Altar?’

The 87th Radio 4 St Martin-in-the-Fields Christmas Appeal The Appeal has now reached £1.4 million, but there is still a long way to go in order to help the thousands of people who will turn to us for help in 2014. The exhibitions on the railings of Church Path and downstairs in the Foyer show how the money raised is used to help people in need change their lives through The Connection at St Martin’s and the Vicar’s Relief Fund. You can make a donation online at www.smitf.org/donate or by using the red Christmas Appeal envelopes. Write a message on the chalkboard in the foyer telling us what matters to you at Christmas. Monday 23 December at 7.30pm St Martin’s Voices are proud to present the World Premiere of the Lantern Carols. Created by composer Sasha Johnson Manning and lyricist Sharon Grenham-Toze, the Lantern Carols brings the creation of new Christmas favourites into the twenty-first century. The Lantern Carols will be performed alongside a selection of seasonal works for choir by Rutter, Vaughan Williams and other British composers of the twentieth century. Sunday 5 January, Epiphany Carol Service, 6.30pm Join us for a festival of Epiphany carols Places of Revelation with readings and music from the Choir of St Martin’s with three meditative reflections from Sam Wells. Save the Date! 12 January begins a new season of Living the Questions, our DVD-based open discussion group that queries the Christian tradition and explores how to live faithfully into the answers. Each Sunday session (12.15-1.45pm) comprises a 20 minute video followed by sharing in groups. Try out an individual session (once every two weeks), or join us for the whole series. Topics will include ‘Taking the Bible Seriously’, ‘How Do We Think Theologically?’, ‘Investigating Stories of Creation’, ‘Jesus and His Multiple Biographies’, and more! Want more info? The Meditation Group will not be meeting on Wednesday 1 January 2014. The next meeting will be Wednesday 15 January at 7.00pm in the DSC.

Patricia Frank sends her love and Christmas Greetings to her friends at St Martins. She is very well (97) but now finds reading and writing extremely difficult.

Best wishes to previous Associate Vicar Liz Griffiths, who is returning to parish ministry as Team Vicar in the Basingstoke Team Ministry with responsibility for St Peter’s Church, South Ham. Liz’s new address is available through the Parish Office. All are welcome at Liz’s licensing on Wednesday 8 January at 7.30 pm.
