Today/No Children’s Programme – Next C-Club:  ‘Meet the Vergers!’  Sunday 1 Sept, 9:30 – 9:55 am (NOTE: special before-church session).
This week/Welcome Back Queen Eleanor Cyclists, Monday 26 August  The cyclists on the Queen Eleanor Cycle Ride, return after a 200-mile, 4-day ride at Westminster Abbey at 3.30pm on Monday 26 August.  Come and welcome them back at the Abbey and join in the commemoration at the queen’s tomb or join them at 3.00 pm at St Mary-le-Bow Church in Cheapside to cycle the last 3 miles.  Donations for The Connection can be make via or by cheque or cash to Lesley Cannon at The Connection (020 7766 5522).
This week/Organ works  The works on our organ will run until 7 September. You can donate  to this essential work by using the cream Organ Appeal Gift Aid envelopes or online using the link  You can also give £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10 to the Organ Appeal by texting ‘PIPE32 £XX’ to 70070, where XX is the amount you wish to donate.
This week/The St Martin’s breakfast group meets on 28 Aug in the Café in the Crypt from 7.45-8.30am.  All welcome.  For more information contact Caroline Essex via the Parish Office.
This week/Revds Katherine Hedderly and Sam Wells are both on leave this week. 
New Stewards are urgently needed for the Sunday evening services  on 2nd, 3rd and 5th Sundays of the month. If you feel you may be interested in becoming a steward and serving St Martin’s in this valuable way please talk with Rev Richard Carter, Helen Riley, or Adam Clark the Head Steward, 
The Meditation Group meets next in the DSC on Wednesday 4 Sept at 7.00pm
Club Wednesday and Archers off for the summer  Club Wednesday returns on 4 Sept, and Archers on 26 Sept, with 7pm Eucharist followed by supper and fellowship. 
On Thursday 5 September, Revd Will Morris will begin a five week series of Lunchbreak talks on “A Theology of Everyday Things”.  This series of talks focus on how the Parable of the Talents might relate to the everyday situations in which we find ourselves at work.  Each week one of the characters from the parable will be focussed on — as well as the talents themselves. The service begins at 1 pm and ends by 1.30. A simple lunch is available afterwards
Crèche at St Martin’s  Our new Crèche has started for the 0-4ish age group. Dates during our trial period will be Sunday 8, 22 September.  We would hope to be able to extend this to every Sunday in due course. 
Open Circle (a friendly group in our 20’s, 30’s and beyond), General Planning Meeting, 8 September, 12noon, Tutu Room Please come and share ideas for forthcoming Open Circle events in the Autumn 2013.  Those that wish to are invited to go out for lunch after the meeting.  If you can’t make the meeting please do email in ideas for next term to so they can be fed in to the programme.  Also, circle the date and time 21 September, 7 pm for the next Open Circle event.
Central London Cloak Group Expanding:  The Cloak is St Martin’s network of small groups for Bible study, prayer, and spiritual growth.  Our Central London group (every other Wednesday at St Martins, 6:30 pm) is expanding.  Beginning 11 Sept, we will be reading and comparing Galatians, 1 Thessalonians, and Acts.  Contact for more information.
Holy Cross Sunday 15 September 2013  at our 6.30pm service we will be focusing upon the cross  and dedicating St Martin’s new Processional Cross by sculptor Brian Catling. All are welcome to join us for this special service.
Volunteers please! Saturday September 21 Open House London 2013  Help is needed in welcoming visitors for this annual event so if you can offer a couple of hours between 9.30am-4.30pm please let Caroline Essex or a member of the church and worship committee know either in church on Sundays or via the parish office.
Autumn Education Lecture Series 2013/Faith on the Frontiers  What does it mean to be a Christian in the 21st Century? This exciting lecture series begins on 23 September at 7.00pm with Mark Oakley, Rosemarie Mallett and Clare Herbert talking about faith: On the Frontiers of a World City. Other dates for your diary: 7 Oct- June Osborne; 21 Oct- Stanley Hauerwas and Sam Wells; 4 Nov- Alastair McIntosh; 11 Nov- Lord Christopher Patten;  18 Nov-Richard Kearney. Special St Luke’s Tide Events  Please put the dates of the weekend 19-20 October in your diaries if you are intrigued by the issues of health, mental health, healing, inclusion and faith.Sat 19 October, 10.30am-4.30pm “Places of Belonging”, A Day Conference at St Martin’s to continue the conversation about Disability, Inclusion and God.  Speakers John Swinton, Chair of Divinity and Religious Studies at the University of Aberdeen, Mims Hodson of our own congregation, and Rachel Wilson a curate in the Diocese of Southwark.  All are welcome.  Sun 20 October, 10.00am, Holy Communion for St Luke’s Day, Preacher: John Swinton.

Security is an issue in any public space in central London.  Please do keep your handbags/valuables where you can see them.  If handbags are placed on the pew bench you do not have them in sight when you stand to sing a hymn!
