Saturday 5 April 2014: A Quiet Morning at St Martin-in-the-Fields

News St Martin – Talking Points

Friday 14 March 2014

What do you seek? Linking with our theme for Lent this year God of Surprises we are holding a quiet morning here at St Martin’s to enjoy sacred space at the heart of this city, on the theme Fleeing, Staying, Praying.

If we look at the story of God’s people it is through the experience of going into the wilderness that we learn what it is we really seek. It was in the wilderness that Jesus defined his coming ministry.

In this morning we will explore three elements of that wilderness experience: fleeing, staying, and praying. Fleeing: How many of us have for all our good intentions found the place of solitude, the place we flee to, is not the peaceful place we dreamed it would be? But the desert is the place where we can recognise what we truly seek, the treasure buried in the field. Staying: Lent is a call to rediscover a stability, a perseverance, a God-centred patience. How do we develop that regular patient commitment to God? Praying: The prayer of the desert is opening ourselves up to the reality of God; discovering again in us the wellsprings of our lives.

Each theme will be covered by a short reflection, a time of silence and a time of sharing together.

The morning will be led by Revd Richard Carter and Revd Katherine Hedderly.

Places are limited to 25. If you would like to take part please speak to Katherine Hedderly, email, or call the parish office 0207 766 1100.
