News St Martin – Talking Points

When Jesus died and rose again he left us not only with words but actions, signs and symbols impossible to forget. In this next week, as we follow this paschal mystery we too will enter into this drama as we remember and re-enact those events which formed us as a Christian Community and which continue to disclose for us the meaning of God’s love for the world.

Sunday 24 March – Palm Sunday

8.00am Holy Communion (BCP)

9.45am Palm Sunday Procession

Meet at the corner of St James’s Park near Admiralty Arch.  Join the Choir of St Martin-in-the-Fields and the Salvation Army Band for a procession with palms, led by a donkey, into church.  Officiant: Revd Dr Sam Wells 

10.00am Eucharist

With the reading of the Passion Gospel

6.30pm From Creation to Salvation

A Powerful service of readings and music as we enter into Holy Week, telling the story of salvation, with the Choir of St Martin-in-the-Fields. Led by Revd Richard Carter.

12 noon The Three Hours –  The Inevitability of the Cross 

This year’s Good Friday Three Hour Service will be led by John Bell from the Iona Community, with the choir of St Martin-in-the-Fields. The theme for his reflections will be: The Inevitability of the Cross. John Bell is an ordained minister in the Church of Scotland. He is a gifted musician, composer  and writer of hymns, some of which will be used in this service. He lectures, preaches and conducts seminars across the denominations and around the word and is also known for his writing and broadcasts on national radio and television. You can come for the whole or part of the three hours. Admission will be on each half hour. All are welcome.

The Passion of Jesus, Trafalgar Square

A free open air play presented by a cast from the Wintershall Estate at 12 noon and 3.15pm. www.passionofjesus-trafalgar.co.uk

The lighting of the Easter Fire and Candle in darkness begins our Easter Day journey from darkness to light, from silence to the joyful celebration of the Resurrection.

5.00pm Choral Evensong with the choir of St Martin-in-the-Fields, officiant Revd Katherine Hedderly preacher Revd Dr Sam Wells.
