Some changes to the music department

News St Martin – Talking Points

Friday 29 August 2014

A year ago we combined the church music and concerts departments into a single music department, led by Andrew Earis.

Since then there have been a number of exciting new initiatives, including Great Sacred Music every Thursday lunchtime, and significant changes in the concert series including the launch of ‘The Sound of St Martin’s’ –  a series of regular choral concerts featuring our own in-house music ensembles. As part of the expanding music department, and our commitment to grow and develop the voluntary aspects of our musical life here, we have recently appointed Tom Williams as Choral Director for the Choir of St Martin-in-the-Fields. Tom begins on Sunday 7th September when the choir returns from their summer break. Andrew Earis will continue to direct choral music on Wednesdays, Thursdays and for the majority of concerts, broadcasts, and special services, and at a number of Sunday services each term. Sunday 7th September also marks the final Sunday at St Martin’s of Nick Wearne, our Assistant Organist, who is moving to Birmingham. There will be more about Tom and Nick in next week’s newsletter.
