News St Martin – Talking Points

Thursday 24 April 2014

On Wednesday 7 May, 7.00pm – 8.30pm, hear inspirational community activist Marcia Owen in conversation with Revd Dr Sam Wells, with whom she wrote the 2011 book Living Without Enemies.

In 2005 Sam Wells moved to North Carolina and asked a local pastor, ‘Who’s doing the work of the kingdom round here?’ The pastor took him to a vigil on the site of a recent murder. The organiser of the vigil was Marcia Owen, a community activist with an extraordinary ministry to families and perpetrators in the wake of gun violence. Sam became more involved in this work and eventually he and Marcia wrote a book about the ministry together, called Living Without Enemies (2011).

On Wednesday 7 May at 7.00pm in an event at St Martin-in-the-Fields, Marcia and Sam will be talking about guns, death, laws, grief, reconciliation, forgiveness – and what it’s like to reach out to a stranger shortly after their loved one has been murdered.

All welcome (no tickets required).
