Tax: Law and Morality – a public debate at St Martin-in-the-Fields

News St Martin – Talking Points

Tuesday 30 April 2013

When? Doors open at 7.00pm for 7.30pm, Tuesday 7 May 2013.

Where? St Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square, London.

Who? David Gauke MP, Exchequer Secretary (Conservative); Catherine McKinnell MP, Shadow Exchequer Secretary (Labour); Stephen Williams MP, Co-Chair of the Liberal Democrat Treasury Committee. Chaired by Salman Shaheen, Editor of International Tax Review.

Tax avoidance has not been far from the front pages of late. The Enough Food For Everyone IF campaign and St Martin-in-the-Fields are co-hosting a major public debate on tax avoidance and its effects on developing countries – Tax: Law and Morality, Which Way Now? – ahead of the G8 summit.

It isn’t only in the UK that tax avoidance is rife, of course, but also in some of the poorest countries in the world. In fact, money lost to developing countries through tax avoidance and evasion is three times what they receive in international aid.
