Crypt Close-Ups: Alexi Kenney – Shifting Ground for violin and electronics

Tuesday 05 March 2024

8:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Grab a drink, get close-up to the artists and wander St Martin’s atmospheric crypt by candlelight for these informal, immersive new gig nights.

Alexi Kenney is a rising star in the firmament of outstanding violinists. Hailed by the New York Times as an artist who ‘made it seem as if . . . this were the only possible to play the music’, Shifting Ground creates a dramatic arc by interweaving music for solo violin and violin/electronics by J.S. Bach and composers, old and new, into five acts. Alexi says that his concept is inspired by Bach’s ability to transcend technique and access the spiritual and mystical realm.
