Lent Course Reflections: The City is My Monastery

We come to church each Sunday, we pray and read our Bibles through the week, to prepare ourselves. Jesus grew up in Nazareth, travelled around Galilee to prepare himself for Jerusalem.

We are living at a time and place in history that is marked by panic buying and anxiety, withdrawal and suspicion.

Near the end of our Sunday service at St Martin’s we often have a slot called ‘Ask the Vicar.’ On Sunday a 14-year-old girl enquired, ‘Is God a woman?’

Instead of starting at the very beginning, a very good place to start this sermon is with the ending of our service.

I wonder if you have ever thought: “if only I could get out of here. If only I could escape. If only I could leave all this behind and find that imagined place of peace.”
