Today/Children’s Programme C-Club will be looking at the Ascension, as usual with much craft and creativity, in the Dick Sheppard Chapel, 11:30-12noon.

Today/Christian Aid Week, Sunday 13 – Sunday 20 May Christian Aid tackles the root causes of poverty so that women, men and children the world over are strengthened against future knocks. This year they want to build homes that will last and help families, like those in Haiti facing regular hurricanes, to weather future storms. Envelopes are available today for a retiring collection. They can also be brought back on Sun 20 May when there will also be a retiring collection. Please give generously and gift aid your donation on the envelopes provided.

Today/Prayers for Healing with anointing and laying on of hands are offered by our healing team at the 10.00am service each Sunday morning at the front of the church near the altar.

Today/Inspired to Follow: Art and the Bible Story, 12.00noon in the Austen Williams Room, looking at Giotto’s painting of ‘Pentecost’ and reflecting on this with Jonathan Evens. An opportunity to engage with a painting from the National Gallery’s collection, Biblical story and a theological reflection, in conversation with others. First Impressions – Portraits from Prison, until Sunday 10 June, Foyer An exhibition of artworks by prisoners demonstrates both their remarkable capabilities and the restorative power of art. This Sunday John Plummer, the Coordinator of Prison’s Mission for Churches Together in Westminster will be with us at St Martin’s after the 10.00am Eucharist to meet with anyone who wants to find out more about prison ministry.

This week/Bread for the World, Wednesday 16 May at 6.30pm Everyone is welcome at our informal Eucharist, a service with prayer, music, word and reflection, followed by food and fellowship.

A Jazz Celebration for Pentecost, Sunday 20 May, 10am This year we are delighted to host the live BBC 1 worship broadcast for Pentecost on Sunday 20 May. You are all warmly invited to this service as we celebrate the gift of the Spirit to the church through the wonderful diversity of the St Martin’s community. Our preacher will be the Rt Revd Sarah Mullally, the new Bishop of London. The service is led by Revd Dr Sam Wells, with the combined choirs of St Martin’s and the Will Todd Ensemble, directed by Andrew Earis. Please be seated in church by 9.30am.

London Churches 6-a-side Football Tournament, Saturday 19 May If you are interested in reliving your glory days as a Jimmy Greaves wannabe, or are already hot on the heels of Jodie Taylor or Cristiano Ronaldo, or just fancy getting back on the pitch again for some 6-a-side fun, then please contact Colin Pincott at colinpincott@hotmail.com or on 07515 551160. There are four opportunities to take part: youth, men’s, women’s and ‘over 50s walking football’ and a full eight weeks to get ourselves into shape. It would be great to get at least one team together, but we need to enter soon to ensure our place in the competition.
