“Gospel music is nothing but singing of good tidings — spreading the good news. It will last as long as any music because it is sung straight from the human heart” said the great Mahalia Jackson, so it’s not surprising that gospel is in its very element at Christmastide. On December 21st 2021, after two very challenging years, Soul Sanctuary Gospel Choir will be “singing of good tidings” and thereby lifting the roof off at St Martin-in-the-Fields with contemporary gospel reimaginings of Christmas classics by the gospel geniuses of our age: Oh Come Emmanuel (The Clark Sisters), Hark! The Herald Angels Sing (Israel Houghton), Handel’s And He Shall Purify (Tramaine Hawkins et al) and Beethoven’s Ode To Joy (Mervyn Warren et al) and others besides.

Celebrating the fifth anniversary of its first appearance at St Martin-in-the-Fields in December 2021, Soul Sanctuary Gospel Choir is a London-based gospel choir committed to creating and performing contemporary gospel of the highest standard as widely as possible, to spread a message of faith, hope, and love.

“Soul Sanctuary were just amazing…the spirit they have when they’re singing…” Mica Paris, December 2020
