Alamire: Anne Boleyn’s Songbook: Music & Passions of a Tudor Queen

Friday 17 February 2023

7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

When Anne Boleyn went to her death, one of the treasured possessions that she left behind was a music book: a collection of songs of love, sorrow, faith and joy by the finest composers of her day, with which she and her circle could beguile the passing hours. David Skinner’s early music choir Alamire recorded the Songbook in 2015 (a “lovely collection”, in the words of Gramophone) and tonight it lives again with a semi-staged performance including the letters between Henry and Anne. Matthew Needham –  House of the Dragon; Chernobyl; and Ridley Scott’s Napoleon (scheduled for release in 2023) –  plays Henry VIII.

A compelling insight into the mind and heart not of a remote historical figure, but a living, breathing queen.
