English Baroque Choir
Brandenburg Sinfonia
Jeremy Jackman Conductor

The English Baroque Choir was formed in 1978 and has become one of London’s finest amateur choirs, developing a reputation for musicality, imaginative programming and choral enthusiasm. As its name suggests, the choir’s spiritual home is in the rich music of the Baroque period, with large-scale works by Bach, Handel and Monteverdi regularly appearing in its programmes. However it is equally at ease with repertoire from the 15th century right through to the present day.

The choir regularly performs in St John’s Smith Square, St Martin-in-the-Fields and other premier London venues, receiving plaudits for its professionalism and energy: “A performance by the English Baroque Choir and Jeremy Jackman will be always executed with a magical combination of passion and precision.”

Jeremy Jackman’s wide experience of singing, as soloist, in select groups like the Tallis Scholars and The Sixteen, and during his decade with The King’s Singers, informs his work as a conductor. A musician for singers, he is one of Britain’s finest and most versatile choral directors, and, besides the EBC, directs other choirs including OSJ Voices and The Cecilian Singers in Leicester.

Jeremy’s enthusiastic energy and capacity to make singing fun also result in performances of the highest standard. His conducting is greatly respected within the musical world and he is much in demand to direct workshops and summer schools in Britain and overseas. Singers of all ages benefit from his lively approach and he is acutely aware that tomorrow’s singers must be nurtured early. Jeremy’s work as a composer, arranger and editor has been praised especially for freshness, directness and dramatic impact.
