Praised for her attractive singing by the New York Times, American Soprano Chanáe Curtis is the newest sensation on the international opera scene. Arts Scene in Wales described her portrayal of Alice Ford, under Maestro Carlo Rizzi, as “beautifully sung” and a “marvelous dramatic lynch pin”. Recently, Chanáe won the Rotary Club Prize in the 2016 “Citta di Alcamo” International Opera Singing Competition and was the recipient of the prestigious Pathfinder Award sponsored by the Arts Council of England. This past spring, Chanáe made her debut at Buckingham Palace, singing Strauss’s “Morgen!” on behalf of His Royal Highness Prince Charles of Wales and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Following her performance, Ms. Curtis received the Shirley Bassey (an esteemed guest) Vocal Grant, to help further her career in opera and classical music.

A Bonfils-Stanton Young Artist Program alum (Central City Opera), Ms. Curtis had the pleasure of covering and performing roles such Countess Almaviva in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Sister Rose in Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking, and Sister Margaretta in The Sound of Music. Ms. Curtis also participated in Chautauqua Institution Voice Program and Oberlin in Italy’s summer festival, where she made her principal artist debut as Fiordiligi in Mozart’s Così fan tutte. Her performance in Albert Herring with RWCMD as Lady Billows was very well received by Seen and Heard International which doted on her “sassy antics and impressive fortissimo”.

Solo concert credits include Mendelssohn’s Elijahwith the Manhattan School of Music under Maestro Kent Tritle, Fauré Requiem with the Ashland Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Arie Lipsky, Handel’s Messiah, The Bach Magnificat and Théodore Dubois’ Seven Last Words of Christ. Ms. Curtis recently made a recital debut at St. Martin in the Fields Church in Trafalgar Square singing Richard Strauss’ Four Last Songs (Vier Letzte Lieder)and works by Samuel Barber. Chanáe has had the pleasure of singing on BBC Radio 3’s “In Tune” featuring Verdi’s “Ernani, Ernani Involami” and taking part in the televised BBC Cardiff Singer of The World masterclass series with David Pountney. Other prizes include the Leverhulme Grant, the Eileen Price Lieder Prize, first prize recipient in the Tuesday Musical Club Competition, first prize in the National Teachers and Students Association Competition, the Dolan Evans Award and the Alastair and David McWilliam Prize for Singing.
