Corelia Project: Clarinet Trios

Friday 12 September 2025

1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Artists from the Corelia Project perform a captivating programme for clarinet, cello and piano, exploring the rich Romantic colours of the clarinet trio. 2025 marks 150 years since the death of composer and pianist Louise Farrenc – a pioneering figure who successfully campaigned for equal pay at the Paris Conservatoire. Her Trio in E flat major is full of lyrical elegance and spirited charm, and is paired with Brahms’s deeply expressive Trio in A minor, one of the composer’s final works.

The Corelia Project is an initiative that strives to normalise inclusion and diversity in classical music through the performance and promotion of works by women and all gender-marginalised composers. It seeks to address the huge gender imbalance that still exists in the programming of classical music. The Corelia Project website hosts a searchable database of chamber music aimed at musicians who are looking to discover repertoire by women.

Recent Corelia Project performances have included an International Women’s Day showcase at The Old Church, a chamber concert at St James’ Piccadilly, and recitals at the Budleigh Music Festival and Warwick Arts Centre. The artists who perform in these concerts are all accomplished chamber musicians who are supportive of the Corelia mission to elevate women’s voices in classical music.
