Wrocław Baroque Ensemble: Vivaldi Gloria
Thursday 14 August 2025
7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Wrocław Baroque Ensemble specialises in historically informed performance, having the main focus on exploration into uncommon repertoire from Central Europe. Established in 2012 by Andrzej Kosendiak, who has led it as artistic director since its inception. Currently, it is one of the resident ensembles of the National Forum of Music in Wrocław.
Wrocław Baroque Ensemble, will present a selection of works from the collection Offertoria et communiones totius anni by Mikołaj Zielenski, published in Venice in 1611. The work of Zieleński – a composer regarded as one of the most outstanding and at the same time most enigmatic figures in Polish music at the turn of the Renaissance and Baroque – is a priceless testimony to the musical culture of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. His compositions, deeply rooted in the spirituality of the era, combine the mastery of counterpoint with innovative harmonic and textural solutions, characteristic of the emerging Baroque.
In the concert, we will also hear Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria RV589 — one of the most important and moving works of Baroque sacred music. Composed around 1715, the Gloria captivates with its rich orchestration and choral textures, blending triumphant joy with profound spiritual exaltation. In this monumental piece, Vivaldi demonstrates his mastery in crafting vivid melodies and dynamic rhythms that resonate deeply with both the heart and mind of the listener. This is an unforgettable journey through Baroque expression and sacred tradition not to be missed.
