Matthew Jorycz organ

Having been Assistant Organist of Westminster Abbey since 2016, Matthew Jorysz took up the post of Sub-Organist in September 2024. He is the principal organist for the Abbey, responsible for playing the organ for services, accompanying the Abbey Choir in concerts, recordings and broadcasts, and acts as deputy conductor of the choir. In September 2022 he played the pre-service at the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and he played at the coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla. Here he performed with the Monteverdi Choir and with the Coronation Orchestra under Sir Antonio Pappano. He also gave the premiere of Iain Farrington’s Voices of the World, a solo organ work commissioned for the Coronation in celebration of the Commonwealth. Before taking up his appointments at Westminster Abbey, Matthew held organ scholarships at Clare College, Cambridge whilst studying for a degree in Music, and Salisbury Cathedral.

In parallel with his work at the Abbey, Matthew is active as a recitalist, performing regularly in the UK and further afield. He is also a pianist and chamber musician, collaborating chiefly with singers. His 2021 recording of Russian art song with countertenor Hamish McLaren, Sphinx, was selected as editor’s choice in Limelight magazine, which described him as ‘… the eloquent pianist throughout, a sensitive accompanist.’ This was followed by an EP release of Rubinstein’s Persian Love Songs.
