Still Suited and Booted – Pearly Kings and Queens Exhibition

Friday 05 September 2025

Saturday 04 October 2025

Step into the original London street style with Still Suited and Booted, a striking new free photography exhibition celebrating 150 years of the Pearly Kings and Queens.

Curated by the Original Pearly Kings and Queens Association and Alex Kurunis the exhibition brings together portraiture and archival inspired imagery that showcases the pearly tradition in 2025. It captures not only the intricate craftmanship of their button adorned suits, but also the pride, love and resilience behind the Pearly tradition.

The Original Pearly Kings and Queens Association has a long-standing relationship with St Martins, it has been holding its famed Harvest Festival service at the church since 1940 and the statue of the Associations founder, Henry Croft is displayed in the Crypt.

“This exhibition is about visibility. Far from history, this exhibition shows that Pearlies still wear their tradition with pride and purpose” says Ashleigh-Rose Harman, Pearly Queen Royal Borough of Kensington, Original Pearly Kings and Queens Association.

Alex Kurunis is a London based documentary and portrait photographer. Having graduated in Social Anthropology (LSE), Alex’s work remains rooted in social documentary, human interaction, and tradition or customs that bring people together. He is especially intrigued by instances where displays of tradition intersect with modernity.

This exhibition is a free, unticketed event for all to attend during usual Crypt opening hours.
