Join multi-award-winning Sir Simon Russell Beale as he shares his life in music with Classic FM’s Zeb Soanes. Sir Simon will take us through the highlights in his life and career and discuss why certain pieces of music mark these moments so clearly. St Martin’s Voices, The St Martin’s Chamber Ensemble, and Choir of St Martin-in-the-Fields will perform his choices from across the music spectrum.

Described by The Independent as “the greatest stage actor of his generation”, Sir Simon Russell Beale’s career spans theatre, film and television. He has received three Olivier Awards, a Tony Award, and 2 BAFTAs. In 2019 he was awarded a Knighthood in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for his services to the Arts. On stage he has delighted us often, most notably in A Christmas Carol (The Bridge Theatre) and The Lehman Trilogy (Piccadilly Theatre and The Armory, New York).  On screen, you will know him from The Death of Stalin (Winner of 2017 British Independent Film Awards for Best Supporting Actor) and Game of Thrones amongst others. Sir Simon has a great love of music, starting life as a chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral.

For over 20 years he was an authoritative newsreader and reassuring voice of the Shipping Forecast on BBC Radio 4. He presents concerts with the UK’s leading orchestras, appeared as a regular presenter for the BBC Proms, hosted films for the Culture Show, Newsnight and Songs of Praise, made cameos in Sherlock and The League of Gentlemen and is the author of the bestselling Gaspard the Fox series of books.
