Drew Steanson, piano: Dreaming
Friday 07 June 2024
1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
There’s a dream theme to Drew Steanson’s programme with romantic and virtuosic works by pianistic giants Liszt and Rachmaninov. Song and poetry were at the core of American composer Amy Beach’s style. Each of her Four Sketches, Op. 15 (1892), is headed by a quotation from a French poet. With beautifully long lines, luscious harmonies, and great passion, ‘Dreaming’ quotes Victor Hugo.
Liszt – Ballade no 2
Rachmaninoff – Dreams Earl Wild
Amy Beach – Dreaming
Liszt/Bellini – Reminiscences de Norma
