Dunedin Consort: Bach’s St John Passion
Friday 15 March 2024
7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
“Ah, my soul where will you go at last? Where shall I find relief?”. For Johann Sebastian Bach, the story of Good Friday was a supreme sacred mystery – but it was also a human drama, and his St John Passion is a heartfelt musical exploration of eternal hopes and sorrows. Nicholas Mulroy’s intimate, emotionally-charged Bach Passions with the Dunedin Consort – in which Mulroy directs the choir and orchestra as well as taking the part of the Evangelist – have drawn critical praise, with The Times hailing a performance “that cut straight to the heart”. Expect the same commitment today.
