Dunedin Consort: Handel Susanna
Friday 24 January 2025
7:00 pm - 10:30 pm
“Deceitful wolves, who left in truth’s defence / Wrong the high trust, and prey on innocence!” Susanna is beautiful, virtuous and unshakably faithful to her warrior husband. But after duty calls him to arms, she’s left defenceless – and when law itself gives way to lust, she finds herself fighting for her honour and her very life.
Handel’s oratorio surprised and gripped London audiences in 1749; now the multi-award winning Dunedin Consort brings it dancing back to life with a magnificent cast – perfectly chosen to bring out the sensuality, the sparkle and the raw dramatic power of the finest opera Handel never wrote.
