Experience the rich musical traditions of southern China with one of the region’s most celebrated youth ensembles. This captivating programme features traditional Cantonese and Chaozhou music alongside contemporary arrangements, from the evocative Moon Chased by Colourful Clouds to virtuosic erhu pieces and dynamic percussion works.
Founded in 2004, this award-winning orchestra has performed at prestigious venues including the United Nations Headquarters and Vienna’s Golden Hall, where it earned a Gold Medal at the World Orchestra Festival. Under conductor Danli Chen, the ensemble brings centuries-old Chinese musical heritage to vibrant life at St Martin-in-the-Fields.

Founded in 2004, the Chinese Orchestra of Guangdong Experimental High School is recognised as one of the leading youth ensembles in southern China. Specialising in traditional Chinese music, the orchestra has performed internationally at prestigious events, including the United Nations Headquarters and the World Orchestra Festival at Vienna’s Golden Hall, where it received a Gold Medal. The ensemble is a key member of China’s national programme for the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage, with a focus on Guangdong and Chaozhou musical traditions.
Danli Chen – Conductor
Danli Chen is Director of Music at Guangdong Experimental High School and founder of its award-winning Chinese Orchestra. A specialist in traditional music education and curriculum development in Guangdong Province, she has led the ensemble to numerous national and international accolades. Under her leadership, the orchestra has become a beacon of cultural exchange and musical excellence, both in China and abroad
