Handel: L’Allegro, Penseroso ed il Moderato
Tuesday 31 October 2023
7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
“Dissolve me into ecstasies / And bring all Heav’n before mine eyes!” We all know how to enjoy ourselves, but what of quieter pleasures – of moderation, and even melancholy? Handel doesn’t have the answer, exactly, but he has a gloriously tuneful time asking the question in this extraordinary, allegorical choral extravaganza based on the poetry of Milton. And if Handel and Milton sounds like a dream team, wait until you hear them brought to life by the Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists. “If there were a Nobel prize for choirs, the Monteverdi Choir should be its laureate” says The Guardian.
