Maryja – The Black Madonna of Częstochowa/Carice Singers
Friday 10 November 2023
7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
The Carice Singers present a programme of gorgeously serene music centred around the Virgin Mary. In a beautifully conceived sequence from Panufnik to Penderecki, this rising-star young vocal ensemble explore the sounds, colours and sense of profound spirituality that Polish composers have found to express their adoration for the Mother of God. Among other rare opportunities is the chance to hear a setting on the Stabat Mater by Roman Padlewski (1915 -1944), whose life was tragically cut short while fighting in the Second World War, along with a vigorously imaginative Ave Maria by Aldona Nawrocka.
Programme
Andrzej Panufnik – Song to the Virgin Mary
Tomasz Soczek – Prelude and Fugue on Tonus Peregrinus
Roman Padlewski – Stabat Mater
Henryk Mikołaj Górecki – from Pieśni Maryjne (Marian Songs):
– Matko Niebieskiego Pana
