The Cardinall’s Musick: Allegri, Palestrina & masters of the Sistine Chapel
Thursday 16 October 2025
7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
The Cardinall’s Music explores the musical treasure-house of the Sistine Chapel – music by Allegri, Palestrina, Lassus and Victoria, sung from the soul.
Renaissance splendour, eternal beauty, and voices that seem to touch the face of Heaven itself. The Sisitine Chapel isn’t just the home of Michaelangelo’s great frescos. For centuries, its choir has cherished a tradition of sacred music at its most transcendent, uniting some of Europe’s greatest composers in prayer and praise. Andrew Carwood and the Cardinall’s Music celebrate that legacy tonight, and you’ll already know Allegri’s exquisite Miserere. But that’s just the jewel in the Papal tiara of a concert that ranges from the serenity of Palestrina to the musical riches of the Flemish and Spanish Golden Age.
“…one of the most thought provoking, educational and entertaining programmes in the entire festival. Introduced by Andrew Carwood – who gave an informative and witty narrative to the programme – this was a special evening featuring a special ensemble.” The Liverpool Daily Post
