The Consone Quartet: Brahms Sextet No. 2
Tuesday 17 October 2023
7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
The BBC New Generation Artists scheme has a reputation for spotting emerging talent, but even so, the Consone Quartet is something special – the very first string quartet on the scheme to play on period instruments, using the techniques and instruments of the late 18th century to get straight to the heart of some of the most beautiful – and intimate – ever written. There’s wit from Haydn and Brahms at his most unbuckled, as well as a piece of history in the making – the London premiere of The Bridges of Königsberg by Gavin Bryars, 80 this year and still as engaging and provocative as ever.
Programme
Haydn – String Quartet in E flat, No. 6, Op. 64
Gavin Bryars – String Sextet ‘The Bridges of Königsberg’ (London premiere)
