Performers

Trafalgar Sinfonia was founded in the early 90s by its Musical Director, Ivor Setterfield. Formerly known as the New London Soloists Orchestra, it has built a reputation as one of London’s most dynamic and accomplished ensembles. This extremely versatile group now has an international following and has performed a diverse repertoire at most of London’s major venues including the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican Centre, the Southbank Centre and Cadogan Hall. In addition to its reputation as an outstanding solo ensemble, Trafalgar Sinfonia has close links with choral music and regularly appears in an accompanying role with a number of choirs. Trafalgar Sinfonia has recorded two CDs, the first with New London Singers, featuring the music of Vivaldi. Most recently it has recorded a selection of English String Music including the Vaughan Williams Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis.

Ivor Setterfield has appeared all over Europe including Spain, Germany, Estonia and extensively across France and Italy. Ivor has performed at all the major London venues conducting prestigious orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the City of London Sinfonia, the London Mozart Players and the Hanover Band.

In 2006 Ivor appeared in his own documentary series on Channel Five, The Singing Estate, which was nominated for the prestigious Rose d’Or award, and in 2008 he appeared in the BBC2 programme Maestro as mentor to Drum & Bass DJ Goldie. Ivor again mentored Goldie in 2009 as he composed a classical piece on the theme of ‘evolution’ for the Family Prom, with this composition journey shown on BBC2. Other television appearances include 10 Best Choral Masterpieces on BBC4, The Richard & Judy Show, The Wright Show on Five and the BBC One Show.
