We believe children are not just the church of tomorrow, they are a meaningful part of the church of today. Families, children, and youth are an integral part of life and worship at St Martin’s.
Infants are always welcome, please do not feel embarrassed if your baby cries in a service, though please feel able to step out with them if they need space to calm down. Many families choose to sit in the boxes at the sides so their children have space to move around quietly in the box, though children are very welcome to sit anywhere. See below for information about the creche in the Sunday Morning congregation if you would like to make use of that.
Young people contribute to worship at our Sunday morning and Chinese congregations on a regular basis. They take part in presentations, Bible readings, leading the prayers, they serve as acolytes and junior stewards; they create artworks and ideas for our shared worship.

Children aged seven to thirteen are invited to audition for Children’s Voices of St. Martin’s who sing on an occasional basis at our Sunday Morning service– a chance to gain musical training, make friends, and have fun! Click here for more information.
Children aged 0-5 are welcome to stay in any of our services or to take advantage of our Sunday morning congregation crèche. Parents are invited to drop off children aged 0-5 years with our trained childcare leaders between 9.15 and 10.00am, and to collect them after the service. A steward will direct you to the Austen Williams Room, which is next door to the church.
For any queries regarding the creche email Sally.Hitchiner@smitf.org
C-Club (our Children’s Club) meets each Sunday after the 10.00am service. With leadership from our Pastoral Assistant and a growing Ministry team, we explore a different theme each week (usually based on the Bible readings for that Sunday). We use interactive and embodied forms of learning to create a space where friendships and wisdom can grow. Biblical storytelling, reflective movement, discussion, and art all play a part in our programme.
Children and young people of all ages are welcome. Visiting children are always welcome to join if accompanied by a responsible adult.
Baptism and Confirmation
We offer baptism (sometimes called Christening) for babies, children and adults.
Courses for baptism and/or confirmation of children take place on Sunday mornings from 12.15-1.15pm (after the Sunday Morning Congregation) and usually begin in March preparing for Confirmation by the Bishop in May or June. If your child would like to be baptised or confirmed, please let a member of the clergy team know. Registration takes place in January- February each year.
More information about baptism is available on our Baptism and Marriage page.
St Martin’s works to encourage a safe environment for children and also for adults at risk (previously vulnerable adults) who visit, worship or are employed at St Martin-in-the-Fields.
