Families, children, and youth are an integral part of life and worship at St Martin’s. A crèche is available for families with infants, and C-Club, our group for young children, meets each week after the Sunday morning Eucharist. Baptism and Confirmation classes take place from March.
Growing through Prayer and Action
A living, worshipping community is one of the few places in modern society where people who are not related to each other can meet across different generations and backgrounds.
At St Martin’s, children, teenagers, and adults are valued participants in our weekly worship. Infants are always welcome, and a crèche is also available. Young people contribute to worship at the 10.00am service on a regular basis. They take part in presentations and proclaim the readings; they serve as acolytes and junior stewards; they create artworks and help write our prayers. They get to spend time with our clergy, our choir, and our bell-ringers, with older members of the congregation, with young adults, and with peers. Families also contribute to particular ministries through projects like card-writing, artwork, and fundraising activities.
With support and mentoring from our Children’s Ministry team, young people at St. Martin’s learn more about the Christian tradition while encountering new ideas, perspectives, and cultures. They grow in faith and maturity. They get to know themselves, other people, and God.
Children aged seven to thirteen are invited to audition for Children’s Voices of St. Martin’s – a chance to gain musical training, make friends, and have fun! Click here for more information.
St. Martin’s welcomes families with young children to take advantage of our Sunday morning church-time crèche. Parents are invited to drop off children aged 0-4 years with our trained childcare leaders by 10.00am, and to collect them after the service. A steward will direct you to the Austen Williams Room, which is next door to the church.
C-Club (our Children’s Club) meets each Sunday after the 10.00am service. With leadership from our Pastoral Assistant and a growing Ministry team, we explore a different theme each week (usually based on the Bible readings for that Sunday). We use interactive and embodied forms of learning to create a space where friendships and wisdom can grow. Biblical storytelling, reflective movement, discussion, and art all play a part in our programme.
Children and young people of all ages are welcome, as are adults if accompanied by a child! Visiting children are always welcome to join if accompanied by a responsible adult.
Baptism and Confirmation
Each year courses are provided for both young people and adults who wish to prepare for Baptism and Confirmation, or for Confirmation alone if the person is already baptised. Courses take place on Sunday mornings from 12.15-1.15pm (after the Parish Eucharist) and usually begin in March preparing for Confirmation by the Bishop which usually takes place in May or June. If you or your child would like to be baptised or confirmed, please let a member of the clergy team know. Registration takes place in January- February each year.
More information about baptism is available on our Baptism and Marriage page.
A Safe Environment
St Martin’s works to encourage a safe environment for children and also for adults at risk (previously vulnerable adults) who visit, worship or are employed at St Martin-in-the-Fields. For full information on our Safeguarding policy, please see our Safeguarding page.
