Beethoven’s Op.109 sonata marks a return to a more elegant intimate style following the mighty Hammerklavier sonata a few years earlier. It is complemented by one of Ravel’s best-loved piano pieces and then crowned by Franck’s expansive Prelude, Choral and Fugue.
