The Sixteen
Harry Christophers Director
Harry Christophers’ chamber choir The Sixteen is one of the enduring wonders of the choral world, with its “flawless” (Gramophone) precision and radiant singing touching audiences across the globe. Tonight, as part of the St Martin’s Easter Festival, The Sixteen focuses on the most poignant moment of the Easter story: the Stabat Mater, Mary’s lament for her dying son. It’s a story as old as Christianity itself, and The Sixteen has created a sequence of choral music that crosses the centuries: music by Palestrina, Anerio, Poulenc and Firsova, as well as Sir James MacMillan’s Miserere – composed specially for The Sixteen’s endlessly expressive sound.
