Hugh Cutting sings Bach with the Dunedin Consort
Tuesday 21 November 2023
7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Cosmic joy and sacred sorrow; playful wit and heart-rending song – if there’s one composer who really does bring you the whole package, it’s got to be Johann Sebastian Bach. “Bach is universal” says conductor Peter Whelan. “He’s writing on a huge scale”. Tonight, Whelan conducts the Edinburgh-based Dunedin Consort in a wonderful, whirlwind tour of Bach at his most richly inspired – from the unbuttoned song and dance of the Brandenburg Concerto No.4 to the blissful serenity and searching emotion of the cantatas, featuring the “astonishing” (Opera Today) voice of Hugh Cutting, countertenor extraordinaire. Pure class, from one of music’s most beautiful minds.
