SANSARA: Traces of the White Rose – Voices of Resistance
Friday 06 October 2023
7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Blessed are the peacemakers. In the darkest days of Nazi rule, the members of the White Rose – five students and a professor – spoke as their consciences demanded, and paid with their lives. Tonight, vocal collective SANSARA retells their story in words and music: powerful choral works by British and German composers – including Brahms, Reger and Ethel Smyth – complement readings from the letters, diaries and pamphlets of the White Rose, in vivid new translations by students from the University of Oxford’s White Rose Project. An evening of remembrance, reflection and homage, with music that speaks straight to the heart.
